- Transportation: You will either want to rent a car, or a campervan, unless you are staying only in Victoria, then you could use public transport. If you are wanting to go to mainland, the only vehicle access to Vancouver Island is by ferry. There are no bridges connecting the island to the mainland.
- Weather: Vancouver Island has the mildest climate in Canada. Coastal temperatures usually stay above freezing, even in January. During the summer, the hottest days reach 28–33 °C (82–91 °F). The southeast part of the island has a Mediterranean climate, making it warm enough to grow olives and lemons. The west coast of Vancouver Island is much wetter than the east coast.
